python3-stsci.distutils software package provides Python3 packaging utilities for STScIs packages, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install python3-stsci.distutils
python3-stsci.distutils is installed in your system.
Make ensure the python3-stsci.distutils package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep python3-stsci.distutils *
You will get with python3-stsci.distutils package name, version, architecture and description in a table
